VIETNAM • MARCH 20-30, 2025

Gold-leafed pagodas glinting in the sun, young monks in saffron robes, women carrying goods to market by yoke basket—the visual images of Vietnam are striking. Whether riding a bicycle rickshaw through Hanoi's Old Quarter, strolling the lantern-lit lanes of Hoi An, or marveling at the palaces of the Nguyen emperors in Hue, the country is special.

Forget the superlatives, long-winded introduction, clever commentary, or persuasive insight. Here are straight facts: four nights at a 5-star hotel in Hanoi’s sought-after Old Quarter district (insane rooftop pool, lounge, and bar), two nights at a 5-star riverfront hotel in the less-traveled area of Dong Hoi, one night at a 5-star resort featuring overwater lagoon villas (rad) near Vietnam’s former imperial capital, and finally three nights at a 5-star riverfront hotel in a well-preserved ancient town, complete with canals. Do the math — four separate and unique properties totaling ten glorious and adventure-filled nights.

And that’s only the accommodations. For tours, activities, and sight-seeing it goes something like this: city tour in a Soviet Era Vietnam People’s Army Jeep, a night city food tour via Vespa (driver included), Lying Dragon Mountain, Ninh Binh river boat, Quang Phu Cau incense village tour, ATVs, sand dunes (yes, there is more than just jungle and cities), Vinh Moc tunnels, BaNa Hills mountaintop amusement park (requires riding world’s longest cable car), full-day Tu Lan cave expedition (dirty, muddy, and wet guaranteed), lantern river boat ride (at night hence the “lantern”), and a Vietnamese style Cirque show in a massive bamboo dome. Catching breath. Plus, there — is — so — much — more.

This is the ultimate custom package to explore the Land of the Blue Dragon.

VIETNAM

Vietnam, a country in the eastern edge of mainland Southeast Asia. The long “S” shaped territory extends about 1,025 miles from north to south, and only 30 miles wide east to west in the narrowest part. Bordered by China to the north, Laos and Cambodia to the West, the Gulf of Thailand to the southwest, and the South China Sea to the east and the south, visitors can find a diverse geography (forested peaks, thundering waterfalls, breezy coastlines), climate, habitats, cultural traditions, and people throughout the country. Two of its largest rivers, the Mekong (South) and the Red (North) end at the South China Sea in the deltas of the countryside where most of the population live due to the fertile grounds for rice and crops.

Vietnam inherited its cultural wealth from thousands of years of history, sprinkled with a handful of outside influences. From the China southward expansion into Vietnam in the 3rd century BC, to the French invasion between 1858 and 1885, and the brief Japan occupation during WWII, it’s the contrast between old and new Vietnam that appeals to visitors and what makes Vietnamese culture so compelling. Following the reunification of the country in 1975, the Socialist Republic of Vietnam was established in July 1976 and ever since Vietnam has been a sovereign nation defending its people and territory from their enemies. Today Vietnam has employed Western forms to promote social renovation and has embraced economic liberalization and integration into the world economy, which has helped propel Vietnam to become one of the world’s most populous countries and one of the most rapidly expanding market economies.

Vibrant street life, exquisite food and stunning landscapes await. In the cities, ancient pagodas squat just around the corner from sleek rooftop bars; and in the countryside, life still follows the rhythms of the rivers and the rice harvest. This contrast between old and new Vietnam is a big part of its appeal. The Vietnamese love their food, and across the country, markets are bursting with the abundance of sea and soil. Simply put, it’s one of the world’s healthiest and most mouth-watering cuisines.

WEATHER AND CLIMATE

Vietnam is located in the tropical zone. Its climate is characterized by high temperature and humidity all year round. In March, North Vietnam has cool weather (not cold, just cool). Central Vietnam typically has lots of sunshine throughout the year and March is no exception. Southern Vietnam is always warm and tends to get very hot mid-year. If hot hot hot ain’t your thing, no problem as the package is avoiding this area for multiple reasons.

There are two major climate regions in Vietnam: (1) Northern Vietnam (north of Hai Van Pass*) has a highly humid tropical monsoon climate with four distinguishable seasons (spring, summer, autumn and winter). (2) Southern Vietnam (south Hai Van Pass*) has a rather moderate tropical climate and is characterized by dry and rainy seasons and warm weather all year round. The average temperature in Vietnam varies between 70°F - 80°F and gradually increases from the North to the South. Seasick selected March because it is considered one of the best months to visit as it tends to be dry and bright (both important for adventure travel). *Hai Van Pass is located in between Hue (Ancient Hue Garden Houses) and Hoi An (Hoi An Little Oasis Hotel).

HANOI

Hanoi, a bustling city and the capital of Vietnam, was settled in prehistoric times. The streets of its rambling Old Quarter date back to the 14th century and are lined with trees that ‘guard’ crumbling colonial facades which transport travelers back in time. Since 1945 Hanoi has been transformed from a commercial city into an industrial and agricultural center. The ancient city is being invigorated with modern cafes, world-class restaurants, and cool art galleries. When the sun goes down, watering holes, sophisticated rooftop bars, and buzzing bia hơi (fresh beer joints) come alive. From ancient temples to frenetic markets, Hanoi's got it all. It's basically the cultural heartbeat of Vietnam.

HANOI JEEP CITY TOUR

Discover Hanoi in style! Venice has gondolas. Paris has 2CVs. Rome has Fiats. Hanoi has the Soviet era Vietnam People’s Army Legend Jeeps aka the Uaz469. The open-air vehicles not only look cool but allow guests to experience the sights and sounds of Hanoi up close and personal. Don’t expect to simply sit and stare. The immersive tour requires passengers to get out and explore via the private guide. Breathe deep, try to relax in between stops (good luck as the streets can be chaotic) and enjoy the 4-hour tour as a driver and expert guide venture around Hanoi’s hidden gems, showing off the good, the bad, and the weird sides of the city. Speaking of weird, lunch is included at a secret restaurant (think super narrow alley, secret doors, and obscure stairwells). Seasick intentionally didn’t include actual photos of the tour as to not ruin the surprise.

HANOI VESPA NIGHT FOOD TOUR

First and foremost, a scooter driver is included so wrap those arms around him/her, snuggle up, and enjoy the ride. Such a unique and exhilarating way to experience the authentic and exotic food culture of Hanoi while being motored in the darkness of the city. Food lovers seeking an unforgettable, off-the-beaten-path food adventure in Hanoi, this is it! Not into “exotic” consumption? No worries, Vietnamese food consists of amazing soups, noodles, breads (the French left an indelible mark on the cuisine aspect of the country), meats, poultries, and of course, veggies. There are plenty of options regardless of one’s “adventurous” spirit. And don’t expect a typical tourist excursion: meander through labyrinthine alleyways, navigate bustling traffic (ACT), and traverse historic French boulevards. The knowledgeable guides will introduce the best-kept secrets of Hanoi’s food scene while venturing beyond tourist hotspots and ordinary restaurants. The tour was even inspired by celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain’s own culinary explorations in Hanoi. Helmets on. Stomachs empty. Eyes wide open.

QUANG PHU CAU INCENSE VILLAGE

Incense carries great spiritual significance in Vietnamese life. For Buddhist like the Vietnamese, the line of smoke emitted by the incense is considered a sacred bridge that links two worlds: the material and spiritual worlds. For centuries, the people have burned incense on special occasions while they pray and remember their ancestors. Quang Phu Cau, a village near Hanoi is a quintessential Vietnamese village renowned for its craft of incense-making. Upon arrival, visitors are immediately struck by the sight of incense bundles strewn along pathways, temple courtyards, and vacant plots of land. Notably, these bundles boast a variety of vibrant colors, predominantly red, lending the landscape an enchanting, colorful allure.

NINH BINH

Located in North Vietnam, about 60 miles south of Hanoi, the city of Ninh Binh is on the confluence of three important tributaries of the Red River: The Van, the Hoang Long, and the Day Rivers. These rivers have put this city on the map as an important transportation hub, but it is the stunning scenery of Ninh Binh that has converted this area into a booming tourist industry.

Heads up: most Vietnam packages include a 1-2 day tour to Ha Long Bay. The area is often considered a top attraction within the country. Seasick doesn’t agree. Seasick went, Seasick saw, Seasick left. Left very disappointed. It was the low light of the entire trip to Vietnam. Ha Long Bay is crowded, cheesy, and an unauthentic nature experience. Imagine a Vietnamese summer camp meets Goodwill and the primary activity is swimming lessons. No thanks.

Instead, Nihn Bihn was selected. The Trang An Landscape Complex (Trang An) is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage for its cultural and historical value, and stunning formations. Considered the “Halong Bay on Land,” both Tam Coc and Trang An are surrounded by limestone karst peaks permeated with valleys, many of them partly submerged and surrounded by steep, almost vertical cliffs. Exploration of caves at different altitudes has revealed archaeological traces of human activity over a continuous period of more than 30,000 years. Surrounded by stunning countryside, Ninh Binh offers an authentic experience where traditional village life remains unchanged.

VIETNAM AIRLINES

Like the diversity of its landscapes, Vietnam offers a variety of ways to traverse its elongated territory. While jeeps, vespas, and motorbikes are fun and convenient for short distances in the traffic-laden metropolitan areas, getting from one region of the country to another (North to Central, for example) is a whole different story. The country is long (further than Washington D.C. to Miami) so Vietnam has built an extensive train system to cart citizens and tourists around, but trains are slow, bumpy, noisy, and definitely not 5-star (even if they are marketed as “luxury”). Not Seasick’s style. For these reasons, a good ol’ fashioned airplane has been selected to get guests from Hanoi (Northern region) to Dong Hoi (Central region). Saves time and increases comfort. The one-way 60-minute flight on Vietnam Airlines in included. Vietnam Airlines, established in 1956, is the national carrier and considered the best company for domestic routes.

DONG HOI

Dong Hoi aka the “City of Roses”, is the capital of the Quang Binh province situated in the north central coast of Vietnam (about 310 miles south of Hanoi and 160 miles north of Da Nang). Due to its location near the mouth of the Nhat Le River, Dong Hoi has always been one of the most important fishing ports in the area. In the American War it was destroyed almost completely as it was in Vietnamese DMZ (demilitarized zone). Dong Hoi has risen from the ashes and has become prosperous once again. Dong Hoi remains a kept secret as there are not many tourists that visit it unless they are on their way to Hue or as a base for Phong Nha Cave. It is a picturesque and romantic city with simple yet enchanting rural beauty and bright rose streets along the banks of Nhat Le River.

MELIA VINPEARL QUANG BINH

Located a mere 15-minute drive from the airport, this hotel is nestled in the heart of Dong Hoi City. The property’s strategic position provides access to some of the area’s most impressive attractions, such as the Tu Lan Caves, Mother Suot Statue, and Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park. Adjacent to the peaceful Nhat Le River, Melia Vinpearl Quang Binh showcases elegant neoclassical design and features the YHI Spa, relaxing massages, a gym and the only four-season swimming pool in the city. Guests can savor carefully selected Asian and European cuisines, admire stunning views of the city, and rest in amenity-laden rooms. The hotel is an ideal place for guests to relax and recharge between tours (especially after being in a cave for eight hours).

PHONG NHA-KE BANG NATIONAL PARK

Phong Nha (because Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park is a mouthful) is an adventurer’s paradise. It is a World Natural Heritage Site located in the middle of the Annamite Mountain Range in Quang Binh province Vietnam. The property comprises an area of 304,745 acres and contains terrestrial and aquatic habitats, primary and secondary forest, sites of natural regeneration, tropical dense forests and savanna. The property contains and protects over 65 miles of caves and underground rivers making it one of the most outstanding limestone karst ecosystems in the world. The cave systems in Phong Nha area were formed by geological tectonics activities in the Ke Bang limestone mountain range. Specifically, the karst tectonics of Phong Nha Area were formed 400 million years ago, from the Paleozoic period, so this is the oldest karst in Asia. A large biodiversity of faunal and floral species occurs within the property with over 800 vertebrate species recorded comprising 154 mammals, 117 reptiles, 58 amphibians, 314 birds and 170 fish.

Phong-Nha is a blend of natural wonders and adventurous experiences. From world-class caves like Son Doong to lush forests home to rich wildlife, every corner of the park beckons with its breathtaking beauty. Colossal caves may be the main attraction but linger a little longer and Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park will reveal hiking trails, countryside lanes, and rivers perfect for kayaking. Although this is Vietnam’s top adventure destination, Phong Nha is still in the early stages of development. The caves are pristine, the locals are friendly, and tourists feel like they have the wilderness all to themselves.

TU LAN CAVE TOUR

Indiana Jones would be jealous. But don’t worry, no swinging from vines, dodging poisonous arrows, or fleeing from scores of angry tribesmen. Instead, this is a simplified and introductory one-day cave trekking tour. Guests will discover the unspoiled beauty of the Tu Lan Cave System (film set for the 2017 Hollywood blockbuster Kong: Skull Island). Director Jordan Vogt-Roberts once declared: "The world will see how beautiful Tu Lan is, they will come, experience and love Tu Lan as I did".

The Tu Lan cave system is made up of more than 20 wet and dry caves that are three million years old. It is the huge caverns, underground rivers and vast dangling stalactites that make this area a big draw for cave enthusiasts. The existence of this area was first introduced by the British Cave Research Association in 1992; however, as stated by local villagers, it was known by locals for much longer. In 2010, additional surveys of the cave revealed the true scale of the system. The Tu Lan Cave experience entails a countryside hike through valleys encompassed by limestone mountain ridges covered in primeval forest, dry and wet caves with a unique stalactite system, a swim in an underground river inside the cave, a leisure swim in the cool blue stream and a picnic lunch by the stream.

HUE

A city in Central Vietnam that lies on a plain backed by the foothills of the Annamese Cordillera and traversed by the broad, shallow Huong River (Hue River aka Perfume River). It was first cited about 200 BC as the seat of the Chinese military authority in the kingdom of Nam Viet. Later it was repeatedly captured by the Chinese, and in 1306 was finally ceded to Dai Viet (Vietnam).

As the capital of both the Tay Son Dynasty (1788-1802) and the Nguyen Dynasty (1802-1945), Hue breathes royal elegance, cultural vitality, and a poetic ambiance that truly captures the essence of the Vietnamese cultural heritage. The Nguyen Dynasty shaped the Imperial City through its rich and sophisticated art and architecture, exemplified in the magnificent monuments, temples, and palaces that still stand today. Across the Perfume River, The French Colonial Era brought a unique fusion of East and West to Hue, resulting in a remarkable array of colonial French architecture that ranges from Art Deco to classic colonial styles. Throughout the 1930s, Hue served as a creative haven for architects, writers, and painters, who drew inspiration from the city's beauty and romanticism to create their masterpieces. These two historical times contributed to the flourishing of Vietnam's culinary landscape, imbuing it with a rich tapestry of flavors and techniques that have come to define its unique gastronomic identity. Along the banks of the Perfume River, a little over a kilometer from the Imperial City, lies the historic village of Kim Long. The village has the distinction as the former residential area of the nobility class in the Citadel. Kim Long, literally meaning “Golden Dragon”, has a special place in the history of Vietnam in general and Hue in particular. Time has not altered Kim Long Village.

Original Name: Kandarpapura (“the city where Siva burnt Kama”) • Founded: 1802 BC (Prince Nguyen Anh) • Region: North Central Coast • Area: 102 sq mi • Elevation: 49' • Population: 437,000 (2024)

ANCIENT HUE GARDEN HOUSES

In Kim Long’s Village, the well-preserved Garden Houses are secluded behind massive gates, typical of the Mandarin Era. Away from the crowded city, guests can unwind their mind and body while staying in Hue. At Ancient Hue Garden Houses guests will experience luxurious accommodations, sumptuous cuisine and leisurely pastimes. Being in the Hue Garden Houses will immerse guests in the warm atmosphere of Phu Mong, a local community where the sights, sounds, and smells of traditional life abound. The truest culture of Vietnam can be felt on its leafy streets, reflecting the nation that was, is, and will be. Telling the story of the Nguyen Dynasty, Ancient Hue Royal Homes is a blend between the feudal architecture and nature harmoniously, bringing both noble quintessence and traditional folk design.

HOI AN

An ancient town located in central Vietnam in the Quang Nam Province near the mouth of the Thu Bon River. The town has gone through many stages of development, from a small fishing village to a bustling trading port between the 15-19th centuries. It operated as the spice trading center of the Hindu Cham Kingdom, as a settling point for Ming Dynasty merchants and soldiers from China, and has hosted international trade between the Arab, European, and Asian worlds for centuries. During this period, Hoi An’s culture and architecture flourished with a new and unique style of homes blending features from different countries. Dainty French balconies beside ornate Chinese temples. Buddhist temples are found throughout the city while Hindu temples lie along the outskirts. Hoi An’s decline in the later 19th century resulted from the Thu Bon River drying up thus making the port unsuitable for large ships. The city lost its status and became forgotten for centuries, which fortunately allowed it to retain its traditional urban tissue to a remarkable degree. Since 1999 Hoi An is recognized as a World Cultural Heritage Site by UNESCO and it continues to be well-known today.

With its natural landscapes, beautiful beaches, as a Chinese - Vietnamese - French - Japanese cultural melting pot of architecture and culinary specialties, the charming ‘yellow town’ is packed with history and full of opportunities to create magical memories. With its old-world architecture, cobbled streets, and distinctive yellow shop fronts festooned with colorful lanterns, it’s no wonder Hoi An is considered one of the most beautiful places in all of Vietnam.

If Company is able to assist, a reasonable administrative fee may be charged. Any such administrative fees shall be invoiced to the Guest and must be settled as per the standard terms applicable to the booking.
