DAUIN • JUNE 14-21, 2026

Dauin? Never heard of it? How about Dumaguete? Sound familiar? They are basically the same, but different. Both are located on the Southern end of Negros Island in the Philippines. The dive industry typically refers to this entire area as “Dumaguete”, but truth be told, Dumaguete is a city near the airport. Sorta weird since there is no diving in the city. The town of Dauin, on the other hand, is ten miles south of the airport and is where many of the dive resorts and dive sites are located. Call it Dauin. Call it Dumaguete. Call it whatcha want. Seasick calls it a kick-ass Southeast Asian destination.

And for those who have been to Dauin (aka Dumaguete) before, this ain’t the normal two tanks per day muck diving trip. The package includes UNLIMITED DIVING! Say what? Yep, up to five dives per day. Night dives, boat dives, shore dives, Apo Island trips, nitrox, and all marine park fees are included. Better hydrate and start resting now. Each day guests will face an internal dilemma and so-called “quality problem”. Dive, dive, dive and spend countless hours underwater or enjoy the best of both worlds and utilize the world-class spa, multiple beachfront infinity pools, and seven acres of resort livin’ with top tier service and luxury amenities. Seasick is always lookin’ out, so of course the world-famous Oslob whale shark excursion is available as is a waterfall trek, and a scooter ride (can be sketchy). Plus, Seasick sprinkled (such a funny word) in some surprises, because who doesn’t love surprises.

Whether one is a hardcore diver and bottom time junkie or a person who just wants to chill, Dauin will deliver.

PHILIPPINES

The Philippines is an archipelagic country (a fancy way of saying it is mostly islands) of Southeast Asia in the western Pacific Ocean. The archipelago consists of about 7,640 islands and islets. The Philippines are categorized under three main geographical divisions from north to south: Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. The Philippines is bounded by the South China Sea to the west, the Philippine Sea to the east, the Celebes Sea to the southwest, and shares maritime borders with Taiwan to the north, Japan to the northeast, Palau to the east and southeast, Indonesia to the south, Malaysia and Brunei to the southwest, Vietnam to the west, and China to the northwest. Basically, it is surrounded by the best diving in the world.

The Philippines covers an area of 120,000 sq mi and, as of 2024, had a population of around 118 million people, making it the world's thirteenth-most populous country (fortunately almost all those people reside outside of Dauin). The Philippines is a multinational state, with diverse ethnicities and cultures throughout its islands. Manila is the nation's capital, but nearby Quezon City is the country’s most populous city. Both are part of the National Capital Region (Metro Manila).

The city of Dumaguete (in the province of Negros Oriental) is a 90 minute flight south of Manila. And the town of Dauin is located ten miles (about 35-minute drive) south of Dumaguete. The area is bordered by Zamboanguita in the south, Bacong in the north, the sea on the east, and the mountains in the west.

WEATHER AND CLIMATE

The Philippines has a tropical climate that is usually hot and humid. There are three seasons: a hot dry season (summer) from March to May, a rainy season from June to November, and a cool dry season (winter) from December to February. The southwest monsoon lasts from May to October, and the northeast monsoon from November to April. Temperatures usually range from 70°F to 90°F. On average, April is the driest month of the year with approximately 1.6" of precipitation. The warmest month in Dauin is May, while January is the coldest. Although historically June has been considered the start of the “wet” season, recent changes in global climate have reduced the month’s total precipitation. October to June is the main diving season in Dauin.

June Averages - High Temp: 89°F • Low Temp: 77°F • Sea Water Temp: 84°F • Daylight Hours: 12.5 • Sunshine Hours: 12 • Rainy Days: 12 • Precipitation Total: 5.1 in

ATMOSPHERE RESORTS & SPA

This ain’t some old salty dive resort. This is a luxury vacation resort that specializes in diving. Welcome to Atmosphere Resorts & Spa. This spectacular resort combines warm Philippine hospitality with first class amenities and services. Nestled within the lush tropical gardens and scattered throughout the grounds is a mixture of bungalows, suites (some with private pools), and “residences” (simply suites with kitchens). The resort combines serene tropical landscapes, modern architecture and some of the best hospitality and food in Asia (truth).

The welcoming staff, beachside infinity pools, state-of-the-art dive center, enchanted spa, fine dining restaurants, and well-equipped accommodations make Atmosphere Resorts & Spa one of the top dive resorts in the world (Seasick supports this bold claim). Situated within an old beachfront coconut plantation on Negros Island, the resort enjoys warm coastal waters (84°F in June) of the Philippine Sea. The area, Negros Oriental is renowned for outstanding natural beauty. The vast mountain ridge behind the property is home to many scenic lakes and thundering waterfalls. DIVING

Atmosphere Resorts & Spa is positioned along the Dauin coast and provides guests direct access to a variety of diving experiences. The shores of Dauin are world famous for diving. But not just any diving: muck diving. What is muck diving? It’s a dive experience that defines the mud and mire that lay at the bottom of many dive sites. It is here where the treasures are found. Doesn’t sound like fun, huh? Just wait and see. With over two dozen muck dive sites, divers can find an abundance of unusual macro critters. Blue-ring octopus, Wonderpus, Mimic octopus, Poison ocellate octopus, Ambon scorpionfish, Flamboyant cuttlefish, Bluespotted stingray, nudibranch, and many species of frogfish are frequently encountered in the area. There is something new and bizarre to discover on every single dive.

Muck dives are conducted via boat. Atmosphere Resorts & Spa house reef is accessed by shore entry.

Depth: 10'-80'+ • Vis: 30'-40' • Currents: Minimal • Skill Level: Beginner - Advanced • Dive Sites: 30+ • Water Temp: 84°F

APO ISLAND

A week filled with only muck and macro isn’t everyone’s ideal dive vacation. Luckily there are fantastic wide angle dive opportunities as well. Apo Island, which is included in the territory of Dauin, is a 178-acre volcanic outcrop located six miles from the resort. Apo is completely surrounded by coral reefs, essentially making the whole island a giant dive site. Big-eyed jacks, turtles, Bumphead parrotfish and sea snakes inhabit the reefs along the island. Schooling jacks and barracuda can also be spotted at Apo.

Standard week-long dive packages often only include one day trip to Apo Island. Not Seasick. Unlimited Apo Island day trips are included in the package.

Depth: 10'-130'+ • Vis: 60'-80' • Currents: Mild - strong • Skill Level: Beginner - Advanced • Dive Sites: 12 • Water Temp: 85°F

DIVE FACILITIES

All divers have gear. Lots of gear. And as a result, divers need space. Space to assemble cameras, space to hang and organize scuba equipment, and even space to sit and fidget with “toys”. Atmosphere designed and constructed the dive shop, camera room, classroom, equipment room, and boats to offer ample space for everyone. But it’s not only about having an abundance of space to ensure divers can maximize their underwater opportunities and enjoy their pleasure dives. A “real” dive resort must offer so much more. For example, at Atmosphere, the equipment room is highly secure and well-ventilated to help keep gear safe and dry. More importantly, Atmosphere’s staff will care for each diver’s equipment and will prepare everything prior to the dive, whether it’s a shore dive at the house reef or a dive from the boat. Speaking of staff, dive briefings are conducted prior to every dive to maximize safety and diver enjoyment.

Guide to Diver Ratio: max 1:4 • Nitrox: included • Tank Type: aluminum • Yoke Tanks: available • DIN Tanks: available • Rental Gear: available • Dives Daily: up to 5 • PADI Divemasters + Instructors: 15

CAMERA ROOM

Attention all photographers and videographers! Check out this camera room! The room is air conditioned, has 110V and 220V power outlets, and features 15+ individual camera stations. There are enough charging facilities for the entire group so no need to lug imaging equipment back to the suites. The camera room is locked at night (typically 7:00pm - 7:00am) but security can provide guest access at any time. There are also large rinse tanks (located in the dive shop and on the boat). It is important to note that the Atmosphere crew is trained how to properly and safely handle camera equipment (so don’t be afraid to pass them a camera rig).

DIVE BOATS

Atmosphere has three purpose-built dive boats. Victoria is a beautiful 82' long local bangka boat with traditional outriggers. She is mainly used for longer trips such as Apo Island, or the dive sites further south. She always carries towels, drinking water, soft drinks, coffee, tea and hot chocolate as well as fruits and snacks. Eve and Kay are 30' long speedboats and they can reach any of the Dauin coastal marine sanctuaries within 15 minutes of the resort. Fresh fruits, drinks, towels and face towels are also standard on the speed boats.

Type: Filipino bangka + Speedboats • Length: Varies • Number of Passengers: 4-20 • Bathroom (Head): Yes (Victoria) • Air Conditioning: No • Charging Stations: Yes • Guide to Diver Ratio: max 1:4

OSLOB WHALE SHARK SNORKEL

REQUIREMENTS: None. Must be able to swim if entering the water. Whale shark viewing can be done from the boat.
COST: $100. Includes snorkeling gear, guide, land transfer, ferry transfer, Oslob marine park fees, snacks, and drinks. Payable to Atmosphere Resorts & Spa

In 2011, the fishermen of Tan-Awan (near Oslob) discovered that whale sharks were appearing daily to feed on their by-catch which was thrown off the boats. The fishermen started inviting divers to see the whale sharks which then turned into a small tourist attraction. Soon after, the government sanctioned the feeding of the whale sharks in Oslob, and tourism in the area grew. The whale shark encounter allows tourists and locals alike to experience time in the water via snorkeling or diving. Whale sharks are the largest fish in the ocean and can grow up to 40' in length. In Oslob, most of the whale sharks commonly seen are approximately 16' long – they are only juveniles! Marine scientists study the creatures daily to ensure that they are kept healthy and safe amidst the feeding, and also to learn more about these magnificent creatures.

WHAT TO BRING: Standard snorkel equipment. Comfortable clothing. Camera and/or video camera. Cash for drinks, souvenirs and tips. Sunscreen (post whale shark encounter) and bug repellent.

NOTES: The Oslob Whale Shark Snorkeling Experience is available daily from 6:00am to 12:00pm and each “viewing session” is limited to 30 minutes. Flash photography and sunscreen are prohibited. Guests will depart the resort by van at 5:30am. Breakfast, lunch and drinks will be provided. Expect 2.5 hours of travel each way.

WATERFALL TREK

REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to endure a 350-step staircase
COST: $75. Includes, guide, land transfer, entrance fee, snacks, and drinks. Payable to Atmosphere Resorts & Spa

Valencia, a small town associated with fresh produce, is located at an elevation of 1650' above sea level in the hills between Dauin and Dumaguete. The town’s cool climate provides relief from the coastal heat and humidity which makes this waterfall trek (a little) less exhausting. Above Valencia, the Casaroro Falls plunge an impressive 100' into a cold pool before flowing down over the boulders to the river. The view of the canyon, the surrounding forest and the river add to the experience.

WHAT TO BRING: Tennis shoes, dive booties, or strap back sandals are recommended. Comfortable clothing. Camera and/or video camera. Cash for drinks, souvenirs and tips. Sunscreen and bug repellent.

NOTES: The Casaroro Falls is a tour for the relatively fit. Guests must navigate a 350-step staircase down through the gorge and then maneuver around boulders. The steps are easy on the way down but are quite steep on the way back up, and the boulders to/from the waterfall can be challenging and occasionally slippery.

Seasick may elect to visit a different waterfall if Casaroro Falls is deemed “too strenuous”. There are several other options in the area.
